Gianna had her speech evaluation test last week at an Early Childhood Development Center. She has been diagnosed with a mild speech delay, as we common folk call it..... she's a late talker. On a scale of 100, she scored a 108 on her cognitive language which is well above average but scored a 78 on her expressive language. Basically that means she understands what you say to her but she doesn't know how to respond back. The specialist recommended speech therapy to help bring her up to speed. It's not a matter of "if" she will talk but we would like her to be on the same level as her peers so when she starts preschool she won't be too far behind. In a couple weeks she'll start her therapy twice a week for 30 minutes a session. She's been getting much better lately with trying to make sounds & repeat what she hears. She has a vocabulary right now of about 10 words (for her age she should have a vocabulary of 50 to 100 words). The specialist told us that there's not much else we can do except to keep doing what we're doing.

Angie- man, I know she can understand everything! We saw that when she was in Clarinda! She's a smart cookie :)
I am glad to hear nothing is "wrong" though I was sure there wasn't anything to be worried about. But glad you found out and hope it eased your mind. She's a perfect gift from the Lord!!!
